The Animal Rehab Institute’s intensive Certification program in equine massage therapy (CEMT) provides students with a solid foundation in anatomy, palpation, physiology, conformation and biomechanics of the horse.

  • Includes Online lecture series and 5 days live lab at ARI Florida Check Course Calendar for Live Lab Dates and Availability or Call 561-790-1020  Instructor: Arlene White, PT M. Anim. St. (Physiotherapy)
  • No previous massage or bodywork experience is necessary, only a love for horses and the desire to learn!

Lab Description: Students attend a 5-day lab after completing the online lecture series and passing the online examinations.  The lab course  begins with an anatomy review, which allows you to learn the musculoskeletal anatomy of the horse by building the horses onto a specially designed model. Participants comprehend form and function while discovering the logic of anatomy. A great learning opportunity to help you visualize the musculoskeletal system of the horse.

Build on your current knowledge or satisfy a desire to learn what makes your horse move.  Live palpation and hands-on training of massage assessment and strokes are practiced for the remainder of the class.  Students learn the skills necessary to perform a full body assessment and massage treatment incorporating effleurage, petrissage, tapotement, friction, vibration, trigger point, stress point, and myofascial release techniques on the horse.  Home exercises focusing on core activation are also demonstrated and practiced.

Animal Rehab Institutes programs are taught by highly trained equine professionals; this is the only Equine Massage Certification program instructed by a physical therapist who holds a Master’s Degree in Animal Physiotherapy. Courses are limited in size to allow students individual one-on-one time with the instructor. Skills learned in this program will allow graduates to help loosen and treat the musculoskeletal system of the horse. Upon completion, there will be both a written and practical exam. After passing both exams and submitting a treatment video, you will be awarded with the Certification in Equine Massage Therapy (CEMT) title.
